About Us

Welcome from the Section Captain

The Power Yacht Section hosts events year-round, offering something for everyone, regardless of your boat's size. Enjoy club-based sun downers and BBQs, scenic river cruises aboard the Club boat or your own, as well as fun day trips and overnight adventures exploring the islands—whether heading down south or up north. We also regularly connect with other clubs, fostering friendly competition and camaraderie.

There is even competition known as “Time Trialing” which is carried out on the river during the winter months. So who says boating is for summer!

In case your wondering what time trialing is, its been a sport that has been around for more than 100 years now. The object of the competition is to navigate the river using pre-determined courses at an allotted speed, and to arrive at the manned checkpoints (which are navigation marks on the river) at a pre-determined time – each second counts.

Points are lost for every second you are late or early, and the event is handicapped for those of us that are a bit rusty and new to the sport. The whole emphasis is fun and enjoyment, and to use your boat through the winter months when normally it would sit unused and unloved. Most boat owners bring family and friends and use the time as a great way to socialise. The events run for around an hour, generally starting at 2pm on Saturdays with 8 events run each year starting in May and ending in September. There's some great prizes and trophies to win and its not as difficult as it might sound. Please speak to any of our committee if you would like to find out more info or to get out on someone’s boat to experience it for yourself.
